I've stayed at a number of hotels in Beijing, and this one misses the mark. Still charging for internet, the price of breakfast is rediculous, the rooms are small, the service is poor/mediocre. English is not a strong suit of the Bell staff. Buyer beware

We stayed in 4 different hotels during our 2 week visit to China, and this was by far the best. The Swissotel was clean, conveniently located to the downtown Beijing tourist sites (The Forbidden City, the silk market, etc.), staff spoke English (some completely fluently, most well enough to handle basic questions), the rooms were large and clean, and the hotel food was good. Prior to coming to this hotel, we considered cutting our trip short because we were getting (physically) sick due dirty and uncomfortable hotel rooms, contaminated food, and the heavy air pollution in Beijing. However, the Swissotel was truly a 5-star hotel, with clean rooms and good food, even by Western standards. It made the remainder of our trip enjoyable. We paid slightly more (about $15 USD per night) to upgrade to an executive room which was well worth the money as it included access to the executive lounge, free breakfast every day, free Internet access in the room, and free happy hour every night. I highly recommend this upgrade if it is available. Only two minor critiques - the hotel lobby is currently under construction. We weren't really affected by the construction, except that some of the hotel restaurants are closed and we had to enter and exit the hotel around the side. No big deal, but a little confusing when you first show up. Also, we got "massage" cards under our door every night. They didn't bother us, and we were never disturbed (in other hotels we got phone calls!), so we didn't mind. But, travellers with children may want to be aware that these cards will show up in the room every evening.

The hotel caters to the business traeveler very well. All the staff has good English skills to supplement my Chinese. I have stayer here on over 20 times in the last 5 years and this is the first time I have been able to book the room less expensively through hotels.com rather than my Chinese office staff. There is a Metro stop out the front door of the hotel, but it was closed due to construction on my most recent trip.

Für einen privaten Besuch von Peking und das ohne die Organisation durch andere Reiseveranstalter können wir den Service nur weiterempfehlen. Auf Fragen gab es zu jeder Zeit Antworten und das Hotel war uns auch Behilflich bei der Organisation von Touren durch die Stadt und Theaterbesuchen. Wir haben uns richtig wohl gefühlt und den Alttag in Deutschland vergessen können. Nochmals vielen Dank an das ausgezeichnete Team, vom Empfang über den Zimmerservice bis hin zur Küche.
